    Default price check

My nephew has a new england arms single shot in 30-30 for sale. He's asking 200 to 225 for it has open sights and a crap scope. I don't want it or need it but wondered if that is a decent price.
so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

If I needed it I would jump on that....
    I usually don't pay for a scope anyway....but if it's got open sights....would get over $300 plus.

    FYI....243 barrel only....$249

I consider the 30-30 barrel the best all around barrel to put on the Handy rifle. Other opinions may differ, that is just my own notion.

It has plenty of power, yet the light weight does not make the recoil excessive and the one I have is accurate as all get out while the SS feature allows me to load pointed bullets and such.

It got me started loading pointed bullets in the chamber for the first shot in my lever guns. They really are more accurate than the round nose and flat points.

If you don't already have a 30-30 for the handi-rifle you better jump on that one, especially if you can get him to come down a little more for a family discount.

I am only hunting one, 7.62x39, but I am not paying the price of an SKS to get a single shot!

I should have gotten one back when the Rossi combos were less than $200.

I had the money and just did not do it.

Back when I started the project.....2005, ...rifle barrels, $55 bucks, each...shotgun barrels, each $35 bucks...
Factory fitting.....$20 bucks for the first one, then $10 buck each...
    Stock/forearm...$35 bucks....

Rifles $189 (on sale)....scoped models came with hammer spur and scope rail....
    Shotgun $129....
    Survivor and Snake charmer.....410/.45lc....around $200

    On my short list...
    7.62 X 39
    .25-06
    .22 Hornet
    .444
    .300 B.O.

Are some metric calibers out there....and are hard to come by....

I was just wondering what the allure was for the HR instead of the TC's?
Granted I used a HR single shot shotgun long before the TC's showed up, but I am just inquisitive as to why the limit on HR's?

    Started with price...and Snob appeal........
T/C started out as the Contender Pistol....popular with silhouette piston shooters...and you could get rifle calibers.
But they were 3 times the price of an H&R/NEF offering....still about double.

Then T/C came out with the "Encore" rifle.....and was also more expensive than a H&R or Rossi.

H&R shut down both the barrel accessory barrel program and well as production of SS rifles and shotguns.
Now the prices are getting stupid for a low end rifle/shotgun...as they were intended 100 years ago.
So far T/C barrels are still more expensive.

Rossi and CVA also has SS's..... Rossi pricing comparable with H&R...CVA close to T/C.

I got started on H&R's so that what I build on......to late in the game for me to change to a T/C.
Give me something I can look for at show and can still afford.

Since Taurus bought Rossi the SS program has almost shut down.

they are concentrating on the higher priced lever actions and the cheap shotgun market has become dominated by the Chinese and more recently the Turkish pump action guns.

Even the most hard core retro woodsman can hardly justify paying the high prices of today for a single shot shotgun when for $25 more you can have an 870 knock off.

    I love it!!!

The first sentence in the Henry intro of the SS rifle is "Time stands still for no one", then they go forward to introduce a design first used at the end of the Civil War!

The full quote is "Time stands still for nobody, including Henry Repeating Arms." I think the "Repeating" part makes it even better.
