    That is one beautiful knife, way to go!!! Question: What are the advantages of the Damascus steel? I have never owned a knife made of that material!

    A very handsome knife. Almost too handsome to gut a deer or open up an elk. Almost.

    Dang. That's a fantastic knife. More art than tool!
    There ain't too many problems you can't fix with $500 or a 30-06.

    Me-"the one that's in your pocket."

    Me-"Exactly."

    I don't know if it has any major advantages over a comparable carbon steel as far as performance. There is some debate on the layers adding to the toughness kind of like layers add toughness to ply wood and other dialogue goes back and forth. This steel is forge welded from 4 different steels @ 416 layers. I will say this, its very popular with my big game hunter customers they love it, for 2 reasons, it gets attention at deer camp, and it holds a edge very well and is wonderful to re-sharpen. So really IMO its a cool looking blade, that is very tough and durable with great performance.

    Material = (4) layers 5160, (3) layers 203E, (3) layers 52100, (3) layers 15N20 folded 5 times for 416 layer damascus

    That's a great explanation and as you say...lots of theory's.
    Has always heard...(not on the interwebs).....that the folding and hammer working did several things......besides being Absolutely Gorgeous.
    Allowed hard and softer steels to utlize the strengths(?) of each...tough durable blade, that was easy to sharpen and hold a edge.
    Kinda allowed for the old timey variation of smelted irons/steels made under different primitive conditions....before todays control over alloys and smelting techniques.

    Would be proud to carry and use an such a tool.
    The plywood analogy is a good one......Thanks

    Here is it brother with a really nice piece of Ironwood burl and blue g-10 liners.

    This one is Alabama Damascus, knife length is 9 1/2" total with a 4 3/8" blade from leading edge of bolster. The handle on this one is some awesome Iron Wood Burl with blue G-10 liners and stacking. I put some file work
    down the entire spine of the knife, made the sheath from 9oz veggie tanned leather, with a hand stamped basket weave and antique finish.
