    Default Misfires, Bad primers???

Test fired my 223 AR-15 and 300 Blackout AR-15 yesterday with some of my recent reloads. Experienced a rather high number of misfires in both the 223 and Blackout, Probably 10%. The misfires all had a solid impression from the firing pin but know discharge. I cycled a few of them a second time and still know discharge. I used Winchester "WSR" primers for the recent reloads and wondering if the primers are bad. I bought them from a small gun shop. I also fired some store bought rounds and they all fired perfectly.

I rather doubt that Winchester would make poor quality primers but do primers have a shelf life? Were these primers old before I purchased them?

    Thoughts on this???

    Thanks,
    Jim

Not sure if this is related or not. I would usually buy the Winchester white boxes. I had a trigger job done on one of my Glocks. After the trigger job I would get quite a few ftf's. The gunsmith asked if I was using Winchester. When I told him that I was, he said that they use a primer that needs a "harder strike". I switched up to Federal and have not had a problem.

Again - don't know if it is related or not.

If never use Winchester primers. Don't think I ever have.

It has always been CCI or Remington down through the years.

However, during the last component shortage I got hold of a big mess of Tula primers which seem to be hard but consistent.

I have never had a problem with shelf life on primers and have kept some for years before using them. I keep primers in old GI ammo cans and occasionally in Tupperware containers so they are not exposed to moisture or airborne pollution.

What they are exposed too before we get the is always a mystery.

Had heard stories about Winchester primers being "hard".....mostly use Federals and Remington.
Only Winchester primers around are shotgun and inline ML's..... 209's

FTF have only been Wolf 7.62 X 39.....in an SKS.

At least you have a choice now......for a while yet....
But for a while it was "What have you got the goes bang?

Yeah, but I bet there isn't a FTF in the bunch is there? Boiled cabbage is like that.
