    Just a couple of comments......
Always camp with a smoker.....they will get a light going.... even if they are on the moon.....gotta have that smoke....

An empty BIC can still spark tinder....and if you forgot you cotton balls dipped in PJ and stuffed in a McDonalds straw.....or dryer lint(eeeww... dog hair)....Check your pockets....generally enough pocket fuzz or use you knife on your jeans....and scrape a pile of fuzz.....
But have everything else ready to go.......after you spark the fuzz is not the time to Baton that 6 inch log.

BTW...God puts the bark on trees to keep the inside dry......

Yea, but he is going to burn his nose hairs trying to light a joint on that lava flow!

Right On, groovy and cool. Most people cannot easily carry an active volcanic lava flow round as a cigarette lighter, but there are places where the technique might work. The Hawaii Institute of Self Reliance (H.I.S.) video was interesting, thanks for posting it. Gabe, the narrator, seems to have a number of other videos that seem useful for information about tropical islands. One on making coconut fiber rope looks good.

I didn't want to provide thread drift - or start a new one so I thought I would find one Naked & Afraid thread.

I have to be honest - the fake drama on that show is amazing... The rigors of multiple takes and other stupid stuff appears to make it hard to spend four hours to make a shelter. day two should be making traps, three days to make a fire appears to be a consistent rookie mistake Same traps over and over again. Anyone else noticed the stupidity of the show? last week 2 folks atually got a raised bed up and covered in the first day. Amazing.

We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

    Honestly ...I'm over it ......
Have been for a couple of seasons.
When it first started out I thought...Oh good...not an exercise in gear choice.

Earlier shows...swim goggles for a guy that was afraid of water, guy with duck tape, and those that keep "showing up" with a bow drill that doesn't work....either make one or bring better fire starter methods....

Becomes a exercise in starvation.....and self punishment....

Maybe we are supposed ti see the mistakes...then come up with or own...I can do it better?

I don't understand why the show have to be naked and then have to blur the images anyways, why not give them loin cloth like some indigenous people in the jungle.

I sure giving them a loin cloth will open the flood gates of "One more thing-ites"
Seems that the "bags" they have are getting bigger....(?)

    Loin cloth no blurring......then what?
How big is the loin cloth?...Cloak size?...Rain proof?...Insulated?...snap together?....

So then the basics for everyone...fire & sharp....?
    Then...
They get to pick 2 items of their choice?

You see where I going with this...?

I my opinion the whole premise of the program was....
You get dumped naked in a wilderness...very limited gear, and no clothes....

Kinda survivor "Put your a$$ where you think/hope/try to prove..... you can live with nothing...for 3 weeks.

Other wise, it's just checking what shape the butts are.....as they get shinny.

    .
the one that looks like a diaper.

one loin cloth and one tool per person. That's it.

I guess "lion cloth and afraid" wouldn't get as many eyeballs.

I would call it something like "Adam & Eve: Survive the Wild" and make their loin cloth look like leaves.

I believe that the premise of the show is to "strip" the participants down to nothing and see how they do. In today's society modesty may be a hindrance to getting things done. By taking away everything, even their clothes, the participants have only their wits and skills to rely on.

I wanna know how the married guys can justify snuggling up to their "partners" for warmth. Suuuuuper awkward. Maybe that's why some guys need a larger blurred out section than others....
There ain't too many problems you can't fix with $500 or a 30-06.

Him-"Whats the best knife for survival?"
Me-"the one that's in your pocket."
Him-"I don't have one in my pocket."
    Me-"Exactly."

Speaking of fights; my fire starting technique, as I've said before, is "hey honey, better get that fire started" and the fight is on.

    When Health is Lost, Something is Lost;
When Character is Lost, ALL IS LOST!!!!!!!
