Default Setting up a Tipi for the first time......

Came across this today.....pretty much right....kind of humorous.......

Gotta say never thought about trimming poles on the fly???....seem to me to be counter productive.

Guy need a Gibbs head slap for using that antique smoothing hatchet as a hammer..
    Anyway, enjoy.

Gotta love the "Molly Dog"...She's such a big help.....

Obviously that guy does not know what he has in his hands to treat such a too in that manner. It always makes me wonder about the rest of his knowledge when I see something like that.

I once sat at fort DeChartes and watched a guy fight with a teepee for over an hour while his family sat and cheered him on, rather than helping him. You need at least three squaws to properly set up good sized teepee.

It takes a separate truck/trailer for the canvas, the cover, all those poles. Many of the poles are so big they hang lose and flop around on the rack of a full sized pickup.

I decided right then that teepee living was not for me.

That and at the historically accurate sites I camp at they are not allowed. No teepee Indians lived in my part of the country.

First time we set ours up....was at a Rondy....local TV guy was watching....
Was having a problem figuring out how high up to tie the canvas to the lift pole....so we were on about our 3 or 4th try.

TV guy says...."You gonna quit screwing around?......., I have the whole Rondy to cover.....LOL

Fastest set up time was about 5 min flat.... at 10:00 PM, in the dark, in a pouring rain after a 6 hour drive.

Our long poles were about 32 ft long....had a cross bar made up for the brush guard on the front bumper or the truck w/roof rack.
    Yeah was a PITA.

You know how you can tell a female was running the show?.......

    She was reading the instructions.....

I really had to laugh at that. I know exactly how that would have went with my wife.

"Go ahead and get started, hon. I have to grab some tools."
"Right. Okay. I'll be in the car."

I give her an A+ for the "go getem" attitude.
I give him an F for just being dumb.

Grizz, Grizz, Grizz.....Hammers are made to hit and pound...hatchets are made to chop.
Old cool broad head antique hatches with bent handles for trimming and smoothing log walls are made to ......Ah, trim and smooth log walls.

Then again if it's yours, use it any way you want......
I would use a hammer for the fabrication, but may use it for pounding in stakes if that's all I had.

Actually I made stakes with long studs 22" long kinda the same way.....for a couple of lodges.
But just put the short piece in the vice jaws and pulled down fast.....looked just like his....no hammer.

Not on the poll. He could have used a rock for that. Some polls are made into a hammer and can be used as such. I often take a tomahawk tucked in my pack but I never hammer with it and it has a hammer poll. The poll has a very small surface area and the chances of missing your target pretty high. A good way to snap a handle.

Yep, that broad axe is probably worth a week of his pay and he just thinks it is a rusty old hatchet.

Seems like a lot of work to set up a tee pee.
With a work shop like that surely they could find a hammer?

a man walks into the doctors room says hey doc;"one day I feel tee pee, next day wigwam, always teepee and wigwam!"
Doc looks at him thinks for a second and says;' I know the problem, you're too tense (two tents)

I guess it depends what you consider a lot of work.....?
Wall tents are no picnic either.
    BUT
Screwing around with a hand drill or fire plow seems like a lot of work when you have a Bic or a road flare.
But that not the reason you do it "The hard way"

Staying home on the recliner is easier........Or you can take it with you.....

Notice the "hammer" for the stakes.

    Very true indeed.
Just the 1st time I ever seen one put up, we do not have any tee pee style tents here, or wall tents such as yours.
Indeed bow drill fire is very hard and can take a while if you not skilled at it.. a minute or 2 if you are.

He isn't that dumb. He is setting up a teepee in the woods with a hot chick who likes to camp and do stuff. Pretty smart if you ask me.

I'll give you that, FM. I was thinking about the hatchet. Now you know I'm getting old.

Hunter - I see your hat rates its own chair.

That pic's was taken by the local paper's photographer and shamefully stolt....But made the front page of the local paper last year.

Had a lot of people call and say, "Saw you pic in the papaer....Yup, That's you OK, sitting in the recliner"
Guy didn't want a staged shot....LOL.... so the bag of bagels are still on the table and hat on the chair......
