    Default char cloth dicovery

i think i may have found something new in the low tech world of bush crafting
shhhhhh teri cloth towels thiicker the better, just did up a batch as it turned dark here,
and tore off a piece hit it once with the blast match and that was all it needed a little huff
a lil'puff and poof fire,. i've never seen t-shirt or blue jean material work this good.
so has anyone ever tried a tericloth towel for charcloth material?

Tee shirts and blue jeans almost always have some polyester blended in.

An all cotton terry towel would be better I am sure.

I usually use pillow ticking. It is heavier and holds up to handling a little better.

I actually prefer char punk for the same reason. You can pick it up, move it around and the coal lasts longer.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

I can see where that work would work well.

Dont forget the cotton ball in the tops of pill bottles.

Agree on the cotton balls.....and they don't smell like dog hair.... like dryer lint.

I like to use the flannel shirts that I have torn to much to be much use as a shirt, I'm sure there is some plastic in it but they still work pretty well, I'm gonna have to raid the wife old towel drawer for the dogs and try them.

I don't know how "period specific" you like to be, but I started charring natural materials a long time ago, figuring the pioneers would use cloth for blackpowder patches long before they'd use them for char cloth. When I did, I found many of them work better than cloth. My favorite is the pith from dead mullein stems from last years plants. They catch a spark or glow from a magnifying glass even quicker than cotton. I've also taken a 5 or 6 inch length of Copper pipe and two caps and made a chamber to char cattail heads in. Just break them to length to fit.
