Obviously you can carry whatever you want. And, for bug out on a bike for an extended period of time, that is a great kit. For day-to-day, as long as you do normal maintenance, the only thing that will probably go wrong is flat tire or broken chain. Everything else can either be ridden on for 5 miles or you should see it with frequent inspection. I guess a good plan is to carry an extensive kit, and after riding for a while, you will determine what you actually need to carry and what is to much. Good luck! and keep us posted.

I wouldn't carry much more than I already do for day to day. Just maybe Gorilla tape a couple of spokes to the seat stay. I've had to ride on a busted back axle before, and it was problematic, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to change one on the side of the road unless I'm more than 10-15 miles out. Realistically, if I was planning to try that, I'd want to carry a full set of spare ball bearings for the rear hub, too. Way too easy to lose one. Then I'd need a small tube of grease.

Airless on Texas chipseal would be downright painful, besides rattling every fastener on the bike loose in a few miles.

I can swap a tube in about 5 minutes, and while the little hand pump is no fun, if I was going to do a long range tour I'd probably pick up a CO2 inflator and a pack of cartridges for it. Patching tubes adds another 5 minutes, so most of the time it's down to whether I want to rest my legs a bit longer.

With a normal pneumatic tire, all the air inside reacts to every bump or jolt. With even foam filled tires, only the stuff right around where the hit is coming from can react. That means massive pressure buildup in a small area, so a lot more force is transmitted back to the hub, and therefore to the rest of the vehicle.

My bike is a pretty basic Trek 7100 with rack, fenders, and some added reflectives.

The bags have reflective trim, and the tires have reflective sidewalls, so it's pretty visible at night.

If I ever wanted to go stealth, only the tires would take more than a few minutes to deal with, but I figure 99.999% of drivers will avoid hitting a cyclist they see in time, so stealth on the roads is a bad idea.

Over time, you figure out what helps and what just takes up space. I probably will add more lights if I start doing more night riding again, and a front rack with panniers is pretty much a given if I decide to tour on this one at all, but the basics for commuting and utility riding are pretty well covered here.
