Small structure builds on public lands are not surprising. I'm always conflicted between appreciating what people build and the damage they cause. I know a place in the Mt. Hood area where there seems to be a local battle between whoever keeps building a debris hut at a trailhead and whoever keeps tearing it down.

Interesting build and story. I doubt it is anybody that stopped by here.....they probably wouldn't be that considerate when moving out.
Sounds like superior representation of Leave No Trace ethics. If only this were the trend.
Certainly wasn't lazy.....
I have conflicting thoughts as well......our woods out side of the little yown I grew up in...had many shacks shanties, and "forts'.....
Land belonged to the city....was filled with new growth jack pine, about 8" dia, back in thne1950's.
Built many log cabins, lean-to's, forts, stockades, towers..... both in the woods and hauled home logs for back yard building.
Funny thing was, didn't seem like anyone really cared what a group if 8 -12 year old were doing out there.
My Christmas gift want list was hatchets, ax's and bow saws......would be arrested today.
Anyway thought it was interesting.

The part about the surrounding area seeming to be undisturbed and not trashed out is pretty commendable. And it being hidden pretty well too. Of course, if a person is trying to remain unnoticed, if they have any sense then they're going to try and do precisely that.

New one on me too. Thought it was a Minnesota North Stars fan or former employee of Northwest Airlines.
Well at least they gave them the chance to take get their stuff and the squatter did the right thing and didn't just grab what they could and leave a mess behind.
Too bad they can't get some sort of legal permit to stay long term.
That symbol...I thought that was the shape of Prince's stage.
Or a meteorological symbol for exceptionally bad weather...specifically "you're screwed".
