    Default Building my first longbow

So Sportamansguide is selling a pretty cool kit to make your own longbow. Includes a hickory blank, tools, and a string for $80. Cool
Here is a quick pic of the kit

So how many bow builders we got out there? Sound off and post some of your work. I am looking for inspiration.

We have a LOT of bow makers on here. Here's a few threads you can read through.

I thought about getting that kit awhile back.

I take it you have to shave it?

That is probably why they included a spoke-shave in the kit!

also will need to tiller the limbs and finish the entire bow.

Believe me, they have NOT done the hard part for you!
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

They left me the fun part. If the idea of a little work bothered me then I woulda just bought the finished bow for another fifty bux.

There's a great site called poor boys bows (sorry no links) that is quite fascinating. He builds bows in an apartment, or did when he wrote the articles.
I'm still undecided on using bow caps, those little bone or antler toppers used on classic bows back in the day. They usually had a plain one on the bottom (to rest the bow on the ground) and a fancy one on top to easily identify right side up. I am undecided because I am uncertain how having the extra weight on the ends of the limbs will effect the power stroke, if at all.

Does anyone have experience with bow caps? Do they change the draw or throw?
