There is nothing wrong with failure if you survive. Sad to hear that such an intrepid explorer met his fate.

Not for me. My motto is better to have not died and still comfortably sitting at home than to die a miserable death of starvation, hypothermia or something else equally as bad. In this case I will be tickled pink going to my grave knowing I didn't try to cross the Antarctic by myself.
