Smile Hello! Nice to be among fellow wilderness enthusiasts.

Hi! My name here is reriveritas.

I'm a 51 year old woman, a gym owner, a recent divorcee and new to survival skills and adventuring. I started out last year doing solo backpacking excursions, gradually teaching myself shelter building, etc. I've now decided to take learning survival skills seriously. I will be attending the 40 day instructor course at Sigma III Survival school in April of this year. The final challenge, from what I understand is 5 days solo with just a knife. Sounds great!

I spend most every weekend studying, going on plant identification hikes, practicing with my sling and new atlatl, target shooting with my little rifle and/or spending time alone in the wilderness. There is nothing I like doing better. I love tracking, plant identification and just being alone.

I live in sunny Southern California, and I love the heat and the dessert. I also enjoy the cold.

That being said, I will be testing my mettle, as I have a 5 month excursion planned to live in the wild with one other human later this year. We've been planning since last year and are both ensuring we fill in the gaps in our knowledge and training. Don't worry, it's all legal and we're only 10 miles outside of civilization, so we can run home to Mommy when it gets too tough. But hey! At least we're trying.

Ultimately, like many of you, I want to buy a piece of land and find a way to live as primitively as possible with as little need for money as I can.

    Thanks, Guys!

Yeah, I thought Sigma III looked the most legit. Here's hoping so. I'll be glad to share about my experience there and let you all know how it is. Looking forward to learning from all of you.

Welcome from Alaska. Isn't being alone in the wilderness a great place to find yourself?
Why do I live in Alaska? Because I can.
