Dear All- never posted here before, so more of a lurker really.

I've been in the UK RAF for last 5 years and wanted to purchase a decent survival kit. As with all things military, the best gear is in the US and its hard to get anything sent over to the UK. Shipping and customs charge can double the cost of an already expensive product. I was amazed to find someone who was willing to post the thing too me using the cheapest service available. I'm impressed as most people on Ebay and the like would tell you to get stuffed these days...

Haven't received the kit yet- will review it here when it arrives. Apparently about 80% of the kit in these is issued to Navy Seals so it will interesting to see what stands them apart.

Welcome to the forum. Interesting first post, but a gushing review of being able to order something, especially on your first post is a little to much like spam. Get the kit, test it, take pictures of you using it and then maybe (after you've been posting for a bit) it won't seem like you are spamming the forum.

Welcome aboard! Hope you actually get it! I've known too many people that ordered things that never arrived... I hope you retained your skepticism throughout and paid in a way that will let you get your money back if it fails to arrive.
Note: it doesn't sound spammy at all to me... Other than the "Dear All" and believe me, as admin to several groups successfully NOT inundated with spam, I know spam when I see it

What kit are you looking to buy?

I live in Scotland and can get very good quality gear here easily, you don't need to buy from the US.

I always love that 80% Navy SEAL tag line. The 20% not sold are probably the drugs and the handcuff keys.
The rest you can get at Walmart.

Canada still requires a survival kit in every aircraft.

So the lists are available, and a trip to Walmart will get you about that 90% of the goodies needed.

As for the handcuff key, you can get that off the internet about anywhere.

The meds, you are on your own there.

I was just glancing through Angier's book this afternoon at Barnes and Noble. The price was $24.99 and I was glad I already had my copy.

But there is a common thread in woodcraft books going all the way back to Nesmuck. As soon as our nation was populated from sea to sea and folks urbanized the writers came along to keep the yuppies of each era connected to the forest. Nesmuck, Powel, Kephart, Angiers, the Boy Scout handbook we all had back in our youth, are all the direct forerunners of the Special Forces and SAS Survival Manuals.

And back then we called our skills woodcraft, not "survival", and we called what we did out there "camping" and not "practicing survival".

Man I should not have started reading Happy, Happy, Happy this afternoon. It is warping my perspective.

Robertson's view of the world is about the same as what you, me, Crash and Nate have jawed over the campfire, except he is rich enough to not take any crap off the rest of the world.

They do not have to agree with him, they can be wrong if they want to, just don't try to force him to agree and be wrong too.
