    Default Cheated on Thanksgiving

I have not cooked a turkey at home in 6 years but last week I got a bird at 1/2 price and decided to cook it Sunday afternoon.

I know, I'm a couple of days early.

I messed up my calculations and put the bird in the oven at 4pm. It did not fully cook until midnight, so I are a wing, let the bird cool and put it in the fridge.

Woke up this morning and committed the second travesty of tradition. I had a turkey sandwich for breakfast!

Someone stop me before I do something radical, like breakfast for supper!
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

We celebrated Thanksgiving last Saturday. We are officially attacking the leftovers. Life is good. I bought a 26lb bird. It was the only bird on the farm with a Hover 'round.

20 pound bird and I got lot of meat off that carcass. I just finished slicing it and put half in the freezer, kept half to consume this week.

I love turkey and I might buy a second bird and put it in the freezer for when I get bored with my food along about Jan-Feb.

I used to buy 4-5 each fall and cook them as food for my long term rondy camps as the summer passed.

Around here they do not go on sale, they just disappear.

The factories buy back any unsold birds and they wind up in pot pies and TV dinners.

That is the origin of the pot pie and TV dinner industry. Swanson started it back in the 1950s with the original pot pies an TV dinners all being turkey.

This is the first year I didn't win one or two frozen turkeys at the local range turkey shoot.
Not because I missed the target. Missed the whole darn day. Fell asleep in the chair...

We bought two birds last Saturday at Target for $ .99 a lb. Gave one to her youngest son and we kept one for us. Wife loves my dressing and sweet potato dish.

Every time an older person dies, its like burning a full set of encyclopedias that will never be published again. So, if you ever want to learn more of anything, just find a old tradesman and hang out with him and then when he passes on, not the full set will burn, you'll have parts of it to pass on to others.
