Default Natural Cordage from Smilax (Greenbriar)

I had a half hour to kill before dinner last night so I made some cordage from a 4' piece of greenbriar vine. Its a fun and useful skill to have but I'm not getting rid of my paracord, bank line, or mule tape any time soon. The cordage held one of Mrs. Whisper's 8 LB weights.

I'm not sure it's ever occurred to me to use Smilax. S. californica is pretty common not far north from me in many areas I hike.

Very cool....Hadn't though about using that either.
Honestly not sure if I even know what it is?

How does it do with a tight bend,....... like a knot?

Well done! So many uses for that noxious weed that is so difficult to get rid of. I have heard you can chew on the roots and then spit out the fiber and get a little carbohydrates that way. But have not yet tried, need to do so when NOT in the wilderness just in case I have a bad reaction to it. Buds are OK not great.

Now I will try some cordage as a tarp guyline, usually I just leave it rooted in and attach my artificial cord to it.
