Hi, I thought I'd be neighborly and say Hi. I am at the foot of the Smokie Mountains near Newport TN in the area once know as the state of Franklin, the home of John Sevier and Over mountain men and the birth place of Davy Crockett, Popcorn Sutton and the it is moonshine capital of the World. A good place for doing what we love. I am a US Army veteran, combat medical specialist and wilderness EMT.I play guitar, mandolin, banjo an other stuff. I do not like long walks on the beach.
I am very interested in historical trekking, black powder shooting, archery, tracking, trapping and hunting, wild crafting just about anything of practical use in the bush. I just made a really nice hunters frock from an italian wool blanket and a pair of gaiters from an old pair of ECWS pants. Next projects is making a good pair of moccasins.
Favorite gun? Savage 24v in .222 remington and .20 gauge. With adaptors this little honey shoots .22 real nice.
Longest time living in the bush? 2 months, on the south fork of the little sur river in big sur california.
Favorite bushcraft experience? building a sauna/sweat lodge and then jumping into a cool mountain stream, thrilling ,chilling and cleansing at the same time.
Favorite knife? The USMC kabar my dad carried in Nam in 1966-67 and in 1968-69. Never failed him and it never has failed me.
Good to be here! Be of good cheer!
