I have several friends I grew up with in Brazil now raising families in very remote parts of Mozambique, Southern Philippines and several other parts of the world where there are no American Schools (one family both parents I grew up with, has a special needs son in Mozambique and he is doing well there). The home schooling options are much better today than when I was a kid. I took calculus and physics by correspondence, went to a good University earned a BS in engineering worked in product development and design then became an advanced research scientist later. I am sure there are many kids doing well being home schooled in very remote parts of Alaska today. It is not necessary to leave your kids to work there. My parents started a small American School in one remote place and my Dad purchased land for one in another area back in the late 1960's-70's both are still operating today. My parents were a good team, that helped a lot.

Not so remote areas too. Homeschooling is huge here.
Why do I live in Alaska? Because I can.
