    Default Hello From Sunny Seattle!

    Hello Fellow Survivors!

My name is Chris and I am a 29 year old native of the Seattle area. I've recently spent the last few years in Southwest Virginia and have moved back to the Northwest for a comfy desk job in an IT incident command center for a tiny tech company (msft). As such, I have a lot more time to spend scouring the interwebs between incidnets and I pretty quickly wound up here at WSF.

I grew up in the Cascades hiking, camping, skiing, cycling, swimming, and all other manner of outdoorsy things. I led a sheltered childhood and my parents never let me have video games, so unlike much of my generation, I spent my youth in the woods building shelters and learning about plants and animals.

I became very interested in Search and Rescue when I joined Civil Air Patrol at the age of 12, and it quickly consumed my life. I became very passionate about outdoor survival and have been a lifelong learner ever since. I went on to get my EMT-B, BA in Homeland Security, and landed a job with Washington State working professionally in Air Search and Rescue. One of my responsibilities in this position included instruction of aircrew survival schools and managing ground search and rescue teams.

Since then, I have worked in Emergency/Disaster management roles for a number of different government, NGO, Fire Department, and corporate organizations across the US, including continuing to serve as a Coast Guard reservist. I am very happy to be back home in the PNW and within days of returning I was already back in the Cascades practicing my skills, and am looking forward to exercising everything I learn here from all of you!

Whenever I tell someone of a SAR or Survival course offering and they say they've been to it before, I remind them that you will always learn something new, something you missed or forgot before, and different methods from different people every time. While I can confidently survive here in Washington, I strive to find more efficient and effective ways live.

    Go Seahawks!
