    Default Swamp hike

The 'Swamp Hike' is one of my favorite kinds of outings. Its basically just a bushwhacking session where I head into the worst terrain I can find and enjoy the challenges of navigating it. Today, Mrs. Whisper and I took the guy on his first swamp hike. He had a blast. We brought the new ESEE 3 which is soon to be a pass-around knife but only got to use it for scale in the pictures with the fox tracks. I'm happy to still be seeing them. I've run into a couple of pretty big foxes around my stomping grounds every so often. Anyway, it was good to get out for a short trip even though school is back in session now.

Yep, looks like fun. Though with my recent experience with quicksand, that one picture looks scary to me lol.
Why do I live in Alaska? Because I can.

When I first saw the header "Swamp hike"....brought to mind a swamp hike I took part in in a boy scout camp as a scout.

We were there for a week, rained every day,....everyone was bored, you can lace up just so many coin purses and carve neckerchief slides......
So, the counselors for our group decided we would go a swamp hike....northern Wisconsin has some great(nasty) swamps.

Off we went, and everyone got completely covered with sticky, stinky....black mud.
Got back to the buildings the leader took a fire hose and was washing everyone off....and a few guys stripped down.....and were getting hosed off as well.

Everyone forgot that day was "visitors" day.....the visitors saw maybe 30 scouts naked or sorta naked being hosed down by the leaders....

Today those leaders would have all been in jail.........But I don't think "politically correct" had been invented in the late 1950's...it was just fun....

Did make an impression as I thought about it instantly when I saw the post.

Yup, kids remember this kind of stuff....
    Thanks dad.

I have always loved swamping. Most of my hunting is also in swamps.
