    Default Newbie here

Hello, I'm Elisa and I just found this website, so I'm new here. I know there's probably some other thread where I should be posting this instead of this one, but people seem to be more active here. I couldn't help but notice that most of the people here are either guys or older, meaning there's not many teens. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) Anyway, I'm just here to learn, so see you people around I guess.

    Hello and welcome.

Yes there is an introduction thread....now you are in it.

We have several women onboard and many younger members. You are correct however in your observation of active members. Some of us are a little older. I must point out that you left out "extremely good looking" in your description.

    Hunter63 saying Hey and Welcome.....
...and yeah, your assessment is good...but that means a lot of experience from all over the world to refer to.

Experience.... just means some one has already made the mistakes, and doesn't want those that don't know to make the same mistakes.
Age doesn't really enter into it a lot of the time.

Thanks for the welcomes. So far, I've never known anyone who is interested in survival stuff or bushcraft, so everything I know I've either researched a million times over on the Internet or in books, and everything I learn I always end up testing out. (I'm pretty much the only person in my area who cares about this stuff, and my family thinks I'm crazy.) I especially love the area of edible and medicinal wild plants, so I know a great deal about various plants in my area and I use them frequently. That being said, what is everyone else here into?

Welcome Elisa. I am glad you found our Forum. I like to camp. Any kind of camping is fun for me. Backpacking, Horse camping (Trail riding), Canoe camping.

That's awesome! Unfortunately the rest of my family isn't the outdoor nut I am, so I've never been actually camping, but I plan on doing so soon with whoever I can manage to drag along with me. :P

Welcome to WS Elisa. There are several outspoken women who contribute a lot to this forum and other outdoor forums. Hopefully you will as well. Perhaps you could start a thread just for teens, that is difficult to police but the moderators could and you could try. I.e. keep old folks off it and also rude comments and anything personal.

Some friends and I will be taking a group of 7th grade girls down a fairly easy white water river late September, teaching them some basic paddle sport and river skills. We do this several times a year with young kid and teen groups. I prefer to work with children and kids over adults because they are faster learners and generally more positive and enthusiastic. Samething with an indoor classroom, ask a question to adults few will answer or participate, if I make it relatable young people really get into the subject regardless of what it is. I have even taught co-ed classes at the county jail about outdoor stuff, but NOT how to survive in the wild after an escape! LOL Most folks at County Jails are young.

    Welcome home.

"extremely good looking" is called an implied main idea. It's used a lot on this forum. In fact, most posts leave out that we are "extremely good looking". However, it's understood, hence it's implied. Another, often implied idea is, "steely blue eyed, chiseled featured man's man". Two implied ideas that I think all of us can agree on. By the way, don't let my picture fool you. There are various stages of "chiseled featured".

Thanks for all the welcomes people! By the way, are there any teens here at all? I feel like such a little kid around all you older people, no offence. :P

Don't feel like a little kid. For many of us growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

Ok xD and unfortunately for the overly adult-like people who know me, I'm not growing old or growing up.

Welcome from GA young lady! I think it would be great to document and share with us all your learning experiences. You never know, you might be able to teach a few old dogs some new tricks!

What is it that makes us outspoken exactly?

I think it is one of those obsolete terms that has something to do with forgetting to ask permission before you speak.

And why I stand in the OTHER room wearing kevlar. Friendly fire is a misnomer.
