Police ask residents to avoid chasing bears with hatchets

A local police department has issued an extremely specific request to residents: please don't chase bears through the woods with a hatchet.

"If you see a bear, LEAVE IT ALONE" a post on the department's page read. "We certainly don't need anyone going all Davy Crockett chasing it through the woods drunk with a dull hatchet."

According to the post, a man was taken into protective custody for drunkenly committing such an act.

"We are still trying to figure out what his end game was," the post continued. "Any thoughts on what he was going to do if he did locate it? We would certainly like to hear because we have no idea."

Yeah not too wise......Funny because no one got hurt...even the bear.

Reminds me of a story told by a duck hunting buddy.....worked at a car dealer, as a service manger.
Just before a hunting trip "Up Nort"....his car needed service., so he "borrowed one for the dealer....new loaded Chevy SUV.

Guy were fishing at a camp, about 12 miles off the main road....having some(many?) adult beverages.
Bear showed up......food was in the new SUV......and appeared to be in process or "opening it up"....

So George, ran out the door, single bit camp axe in hand....Pissed off...and chased the bear away.

Did chase him off....of course, the sight of a drunk, great big white guy in white T and shorts glowing in the moon light...screaming at the top of his lungs waving the axe....would scare most anything.

We ask him what he was going to do if he caught it....said "I gonna be dead either way, catch the bear....or my boss is gonna do it when I get back....Makes no difference."

I swear I can't do anything any more without it making the paper. And the hatchet was NOT dull. It had some great stories.

dude was lucky he didn't hit the bear, that would have angered it! Lucky also it wasn't a mother bear with cubs nearby...the emergency room would have to have removed the hatchet from the guys butt!...
