A few years ago, just a couple hours away from me, there was a guy who ran a sanctuary for wild and exotic animals. He had bears, tigers, lions, monkeys and all kinds of stuff. One day, he decided to let everything out then commit suicide.

The next few months were harrowing.

    Just trying to be helpful.......
'Remember .22 will kill "anything on the planet".....

First get yourself an elephant....African are best, the ones from India are being worked, so are tougher.

    Elephant Stew

1 medium sized elephant (African are best)
    500 bushels potatoes
    200 bushels carrots
    100 kilogram tomatoes
    2 wheelbarrows onions (heaped)
    100 kilogram salt
    100 kilogram pepper
    10 liter vinegar
    1500 gallons brown gravy
    3000 sprigs parsley
    1-16 oz box of macaroni

Cut elephant into bite sized pieces(this will take about 2 months).
Cut vegetables into cubes (another 2 months).
Place meat in pan, cover with the brown gravy and simmer for 4 weeks.
Add the salt and pepper to taste.
When the meat is tender, add the vegetables. Simmer for another 4 weeks.
    Garnish with parsley.

This will serve 3800 people, but if more are expected, add 2 small rabbits. This is optional, as many people dislike finding hares in their stew.

I understand that one zoo worker was killed by a tiger, which ripped off her arm, and another worker is missing.

They will probably not be certain what happened to him until they find shreds of uniform in the tiger poo!

It was pandemonium when a number of animals including rare and exotic species escaped at the Chengdu zoo in China. Children were attacked by a rhino. I understand these photos were actually smuggled out of the country.

My sales rep for the crane company we rent cranes from got his thumb bitten off from a tiger owned by a former drug dealer who used a chain saw to dismember a snitch. I know it must be made up. LOL

The only thing I can't buy in that whole story is someone dumb enough to stick their hand inside a tiger's cage. How much beer do you have to drink to think that's a good idea?

I was wondering why he hadn't gotten back to me. When he finally called the next Monday he said he was out on for an injury. I asked what happened and he said I wouldn't believe him. He said the owner had warned him not to put his hands in the cage. The owner walked into the cage and the tiger stood up and was licking the owners face. He put his camera as close to the cage as he could and hooked his thumb through the cage to steady the shot. Tiger stops licking face and commenced to eating thumb.

Default dangerous foolish humans, instinctive exotics defending territory

Basically the tiger in this case is confined to a inappropriate small space and instinct tells it to defend its territory, the man's hand was a treat, his thumb should never have been there, he was a fool.

In my personal opinion if untrained people who do not follow simple instructions are allowed to get that close there should be double barriers like there are at public zoos. The humans are more of a threat to the exotic animals than the animals are to humans. Every time something like this foolish man's thumb gets damaged or a zoo keeper gets injured/killed at a flooded zoo more animals are put at greater risk or hopefully put in better conditions and habitats.

I kept several exotic animals that were given to me by people who could no longer control/care for them. IMO most exotics are NOT good pets. I have a few photos but posting them only encourages bad behaviour. Dogs and possibly domestic cats are much better. Stick with those. If you have a bunch of money get extremely well trained, well breed dog(s) and have it trained every day by a pro, then use it for hunting or something useful.

I have been contemplating this for a week and have come to a different conclusion than you guys.

I see this as an excellent reason to buy the .375 H&H magnum I have always wanted!

I am just having a hard time deciding between and bolt action and a double.

Then there's the plane ticket to the Ukraine, hotel accommodations, big game guide and body armor. You might get PRESS credentials just to keep from getting shot by either side. This could get expensive. Just tell them your night scope is a TV camera.
