    Default Keeping The Birds Out

Each year we lose a lot of our tomatoes to birds. Our goal this year is to can a lot of tomato sauce (Mrs. Crash's is much better than store bought), so I need to keep the birds out. That task was relatively simple using pvc and bird netting. Since everybody needs a new project to keep busy, I made a watering system for the containers. So far, so good....and no birds getting our 'maters.

I tried using that netting on a cherry tree. Didn't work. They still figured out how to get to 'em. That's a great set up.

Just water. The boxes each have two plants and a fertilizer strip. Right now they are taking about a gallon and a half a day. I've graduated to real Earthboxes (price came down and they last much longer than the homemade ones (UV breakdown over time)). Here is the set-up and fertilizer thingie. For tomatoes there are just two plants per box. https://earthbox.com/earthbox-pdf/EB...IONS_NEW-2.pdf

I tried homemade eath boxes once and it ended up a dismal failure. Should have used dolomite. Your tomatoes look like there is no nutrient deficiency or soil borne problems. Nice!
