Default BATFE taking comments until March 16 on potential ban of M855 and other ammo

I'm pretty sure this one is a done deal. They did the same thing with the Russian 7N6 ammo last year.

Yep, this is partly the result of the popularity of the AR pistols.

As long as it was only used in rifles as recreational ammo for "sporting purposes" it was exempt.

That was the reason for the ban on the 5.45 ammo that had been exempt until last year.

At least ALL of the available ammo for 5.56 is not AP so a supply will remain available. With the 5.45 they declared almost everything AP due to the steel core in the Russian rounds.

What they have hit here is ammo definitely labeled as AP that can be used in pistols holding more than one round. That has been a no-no for a long time.

Yeah, it was bound to happen. But there's a crapload of ammo out there not affected so it's probably not a big deal.

Its just one more step toward their (gun banners) ultimate goal. This is called creeping incrementalism. Taking small steps that don't seem too drastic. Eventually, if one were to look back, they would most likely say ... How the heck did we get to this point?

Crash, that's the way I felt about it when I read it. Frog in pot syndrome.

I also have a problem with the NRA pointing out that "Well why are you banning this ammo over here if you aren't banning that ammo over there." And then, guess what. They ban that ammo over there too -and anything else like it that they can link to it by composition or supposed use. It seems a bad idea to teach anti-gunners that things are so similar. They won't learn it on their own. Their ignorance is in some cases kind of handy.

I call it death by 1,000 cuts, but the end is the same.

The way I see it, this administration has less than two years to create as much havoc as possible in order to push us into some sort of dictatorship or socialist government. Most people will be too worried about making it through the day and wont have the time or energy to worry about how we got to this point. And sadly, the main stream media will fall into lockstep with them, again...

Good news for a change. Looks like ATF has called off the dogs for now. I have written one of my Senators and my Representative praising them for having signed their respective letters. I had one Senator that did not sign the letter for whatever reason. That was unusual for him and I've expressed my disappointment that his signature was not present. Hopefully, he has a good reason why he did not sign it.

But did you notice, their actions have caused a run on all AR ammo???

The shelves in my area have been stripped.

Most pistol ammo is still in short supply from the last ammo shortage, 22lr is still in short supply (no matter what is happening in remote and scattered regions).

    I blame Chris Rock!

He did a stand-up skit about $5,000 bullets stopping gun violence several years ago and I am sure everyone in the present administration saw the retinue, and remembered it. Forget the guns, control the ammo!

The letter I saw had inclusion of reasonably priced and available ammo as part of the 2nd Amendment right. That was encouraging.

I bought some M193 5.56 yesterday and priced the M855 just to see what the price had jumped to. I've had less sticker shock looking at new cars. It's running around $600 for 1000 rounds or .60 a round!

Too bad this couldn't drag on long enough for me to make it to a gun show with a few boxes to price-gouge. jk. I'm glad to hear things are looking positive again. The good news comes too little and far between.

I picked this up yesterday. It was .37 a round but it was on stripper clips. Their 855 was a lot less too.
