    Default sawblade ulu

I had a scrap chunk of a carpenter saw that needed something done with it. I cut out a ulu shape and ground a chisel edge on it. For a handle there was a piece of lilac wood that has been laying around for several years. The bark was shaved off and a slit was cut into the bottom. Drilled in a couple 1/8'' holes through the wood and steel. The handle is pinned on with brass rod and copper burrs. I also used some epoxy. The epoxy was coloured up with a bit of powdered charcoal.

The blade was left as is from the saw. In my opinion this type of knife should be a wee bit soft. A pic is worth a thousand words so they say. thanks for looking.

beats the hoot out of Sharon LOL.

I'm not sure what the ulu will be used for, probably fleshing hides and butchering. More or less there was a piece of steel laying about that needed something made out of it. LOL

My understanding is that they are used for everything, fish and game butchering, cooking knife........all around knife.

No doubt, a ulu is not a survival knife, it is a working knife.

I've never skinned and butchered game with a hawk but, I can envision them used like a ulu (handle removed). Maybe that's why hawks were valued in addition to procuring firewood and self defense.
