    Agree as well....Did the Boy Scout Mile Swim.....
    You figure out that floating and kicking you feet is about the only way you are gonna make it..........Doing all the fancy racing strokes are not what you to do if caught in the water, unexpectedly.

    Living in the south most of my youth, we all learned to swim from going swimming. Hanging out at the lake on the weekend and swimming while mom sat and crocheted or read. My dad would get in the water with us but my mom wouldn't. Now I live up here in Alaska. My kids were raised here. I felt bad that they would miss those weekends out at the lake. We have more kids die from drowning then any other state because our waters are cold so people don't take their kids swimming for good, cheap fun. Both of our swimming pools are indoors, one of our two high schools. I made sure to bring my kids out to the hot springs (60 miles from town) and to the pools so that they would learn to swim.
