Default New addition Ruger Blackhawk .45 convertible .

The Ruger .45 Blackhawk convertible comes with two cylinders, the .45 lc and a separate cylinder for .45 APC.
Been looking for bigger revolvers out at our local Gander Mountain....they had really started looking like a shoe store.

Stopped out a couple of weeks ago I saw the Blackhawk....but put it on the back burner.

When I was there today had a 10% coupon and couldn't stand it.....Pick it up Sunday after 3:00 PM

that's a awesome handgun. I had one like it and traded it off to a buddy with rights of first refusal if he decided t sell it. A couple years ago he called me and asked if I wanted it back, how could I refuse. So it came home.

I've been thinking, I have several rigs that shoot 45acp but the ruger is the stoutest of the bunch and could take a stout handload.

Gun porn and coffee first thing in the morning. Whoeee. Now I need a bacon samich. Good for you. There is only one solution to a gun itch and 10% off is an even better scratch.

Pic was from their site on "convertibles".....this one looks like the .38/.357.9mm version.

If you happen to have a 45 colt or 357 mag Blackhawk, ruger will fit a conversion cylinder to the gun. At least they did at one time.

Don't know how I missed this thread!

I must have been packing for the trip.

Hunter, have you ever installed a Wolf trigger kit in a Blackhawk?

It makes them as smooth as owl $h!%.

You can also do a fluff and buff job on your own if you are familiar with the Blackhawk mechanism.

I used to rebuild 3 screw Blackhawks for the fast draw guys "back in the day".

I have always wanted a Ruger Convertible in each of the variations. Not just the .45/.45.

At one time they had a slick little .30carbine/.32-20/.32H&R system going as well as a .44mg/.44-40 and I heard rumors of a 10mm/38-40 at one time.

Haven't been out to my range at "The Place" lately....heading out for deer season here shortly so any review will have to wait.

Seems .45 lc ammo is all over the map, but locally seems two categories these days....Cowboy Action and High Performance Handgun hunting ammo.

So will have to try out a few different loads.......my home grown ready rolls are loader up for Cowboy Action style....for use in the Ruger Old Army BP conversion.

I had a BH in .45lc 30 years or so ago.

I was loading the 255gn flat nose slugs to about 750fps.

One day I was shooting in the back yard with my back to the afternoon sun. I was shooting into a weed covered bank and could not see where my shots were going exactly, but my boy walked up behind me and started calling my shots.

Those big bullets were lobbing at the target so slow they were reflecting the sun off their base and he could watch them from muzzle to target just like they were tracers!

I decided to skip the adjustable sights and such on this last go around and opted for the .44 mag in a SAA clone. I have a box of factory and a box of reloads worked up for it but the line at the shooting range is long and slow this close to deer season.

I probably should just go down in the back corner of the lot and give the bullet trap a .44 magnum rating test.

At least with the single action I will not be crawling around hunting brass in the leaves.

Years ago we were shooting a Ruger .44 Deerslayer carbine...ammo was factory .240 gr JHP at a 100 yds.....and yeah you could see the bullet go down range.....and hear a Boom/whap........Think those were around 1500 fps or so....but was kinda funny.

I surprised that the .45 colt has more variations available than the .44 mag or seem so.
Have several different firearms that shoot the .45 colt but none were designated as a .45 only.

I have one in .357mag/.38special/9mm, It is a good plinker and a nice size for a woods gun. I had two at one point, but the newer one was just to nice to shoot much. It got traded away, and I shoot my "worn" one quite a bit.
