    Default G'day

    Greetings!

First I would like to say I am 17 and live in QLD, Australia. The reason I want to learn and experience surviving wilderness' is to explore an alternative lifestyle that offers self improvement and sense of accomplishment rather than the day to day grind. I have found nature puts me in a state of tranquility and acceptance. Of course this will take time and effort, but I have to start somewhere.

I came here for in hopes that vets and newer members could offer me advice.

Where did you start and what did you do?
What are the most important/dire lessons you have learned?
What would you do differently, if you knew what you know now?
How do you improve yourself and your skills regularly? (Specifics please)

Anything else you feel would contribute to this discussion would be greatly appreciated, and welcomed.
    Thank you for reading!

Welcome home. You need to learn the basics. Fire, Clean water, Shelter, Orienteering, Signalling, First Aid. Take a first aid class. You can use that in any environment. The rest you can learn and practice at home. Learn those and you'll have a good start.

    Welcome from GA!
In addition to what Rick and Hunter have posted, I would look for basic survival classes, navigation classes, and talk to other local folks.
You would be surprised that many people who enjoy nature are willing to share their knowledge.
    Good luck!
When all else fails, read the directions, and beware the Chihuahuacabra!

Look in your area for a hiking club. Lots of areas have groups that hike together. Ours take overnights.
