Default From the mountains of NC

    Nice site all.
Name is John and I live in the mountains of western NC, but originally from the woods of Maine. Been tramping through swamps and woods my whole life and feel safer there then in society. Hobbies include running my hounds, fishing, hunting and trapping. Been tanning hides since I caught my first muskrat at 6 years old. Going back to the old ways and going to try trapping with just long spring traps not coil springs that are so popular today. Looking at also getting into flintlocks and shooting all game this method. All things primitive spark my interest and am hear to learn-- so I will shut up and open my eyes and ears. John

Every time an older person dies, its like burning a full set of encyclopedias that will never be published again. So, if you ever want to learn more of anything, just find a old tradesman and hang out with him and then when he passes on, not the full set will burn, you'll have parts of it to pass on to others.

Bill, we still have the wild hogs here and chase them often. I run my hounds on them a lot but still like to get out a few times a year and still hunt.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome....

Dad and some of his friends had hunted that area for several years before I went down. I still remember getting to the fella's house that ran the camp. He had a head mount on his house right next to the front door. That was the biggest and meanest looking hog I had ever seen, only haveing seen domestic type hogs. These were the Russian types. The fella had one run between his leg and cut every tendon in his legs. Had a good time, but didn't see any.
