Default Girl sneaking into your Treehouse.

I did not see a "No Girls Allowed" sign so if figure I must be okay.

    My info is:
I am a mid- 1960's vintage woman living out West (we have been here awhile....folks came in wagons in 1853)
I work in financial services spending my days riding herd on paperwork and computers. Was born on a farm/ranch started out doing that sort of work,
Went to college, worked with young children and ended up where I am.

Relevant training? Growing up with my dad.... who's ambition at age 5 was to be an Indian.
A bit of the Love of the West rubbed off on me. My son is an Eagle Scout and in O.A. learned a bit from there.

I hunt the High Desert/ Great Basin area mostly with some exposure to the Wallowas.
I am not a hard core survival person. I'd just like to add to my esoteric knowledge of the subject.

I got my second antelope last weekend. I have an acquaintance that was a little concerned that I was going to kill
one of his personal animal totems. So, I promised that along with thanking the antelope for his sacrifice. I would try very hard to use as much of the animal as possible.
I stumbled across this site yesterday as I was removing the tendons from the lower legs to make sinew and then attempting to loosen and remove the hooves to dry to give to my friend as a rattle.
    (not coming off!!)

I cut some jerky strips and put them in fridge to cure in salt, pepper and brown sugar. I was hoping to use a friend's smoker but may have to just use the oven on low. Suggestions?

Girls are always allowed. Just remember the guys here still pull pig tails on occasion. LOL otherwise not much help on the jerky. But welcome from a fellow newby!

There's a few of us girls here. Somewhere on here, someone posted a video of their home made smoker, made out of tarps. Looked pretty simple and fun to use. Anyways, welcome from Alaska.

Welcome to this mixed up band a unrepentant delinquents.

Unless that antelope was a young one it might turn out a bit chewy. I hope not.

Since you already have the meat in marinade and have no smoker on hand I would suggest just using the oven as you intended.

Use the 200 degree setting and leave the door slightly open abd expect it to take all night.

The other alternative is to make a run to Wallmart and buy a dehydrator. That is what I use for jerky, drying garden produce and making powdered eggs.

When my boys were deployed to Iraq I must have made a half ton of jerky and shipped it over. They wanted jerky in every care package and the store bought stuff was absurdly priced.

My dehydrator was some of the best $35 I ever spent.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

Girls in the treehouse ? Now that brings back nice memories, but I won't go there in detail ! And I'll just say it always improved the scenery - welcome aboard.

It's not just the scenery that improves when our forum women show up, the food takes a dramatic improvement!

Many of us that attended the Cumberland Gap jamboree, can attest to the fact that Winnie, BTW, Girlscout and Nate's wife Candice can COOK !!!

Now Crash can put together a good meal but that is "man cooking", intended to keep one alive.

BTW brings BBQ, Winnie brings cakes and GS turns mesquite beans and cactus juice into breakfast !

Thank you for all the Welcomes! The jerky is not so great... I got the marinade recipe from my brother and it came off a little weak against the antelope.
