here is a interesting video I came across by Mors Kohanski regarding survival knives.

so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

One custom knife maker told me that a survival knife is the one you have with you when you need to survive. From then on I carried a serious knife.

A serious knife is one of quality as far as craftsmanship, materials used, can you sharpen it into a usable blade, will it hold up to rough use,, etc A couple of knives that fit the bill for me now and in the past are, Morseth, Buck, Randall Made knife, as far as fixed bladed knives. Folders I have used and still do are Buck, Case, Old Timer (Original). There are many others. I guess by serious I mean they are not "Saturday night specials".

Hmmmm....now I see..so a serious knife or a real knife is a good knife and that can lasts, will not break easily, holds the sharpness and edge...its a knife you can rely on...great..I understand..that means I have been doing okay.
    Thanks.

I agree with highhawk... Don't pay much attention to knives that are marketed as "survival" knives... In my experience any knife, as long as its well made, is a knife built for survival. Stay away from models with cheap compasses in the pommel as well, as those will undoubtedly break in any of a hundred ways while your putting your knife through hell. Stick to a well made and sheathed fixed blade , with extra attention paid to the materials used on the grips. Personally I shy away from wood, seeing as how its quite slippery in wet or adverse weather conditions. Textured g-10 is a good way to go. Ultimately it comes down to what you prefer and are comfortable with, not what the manufacturer promises.

A true survival knife must cost at least $300 bucks weight 4 pounds.
Can fly a helo, call for help in 200 languages, swim fast moving currents.
Helps to have a Orange handle with fire kit and AR15, EBR inside.

Now on the other hand......a Ture Hunting Knife has to have been carried by 4 generations of ancestors, reached a mythical back ground.

Then needs to wake me up in the morning, make bacon and eggs (egg beaters, need to watch cholesterol)......drive me to my spot, shag game to come by.....follow and clean said game....drag it back to the truck.....drive me to the saloon and brag to everyone what a great hunter I am.

That my friends is the difference.

I just prepped my Ontario Blackbird SK5 into something that I can survive with.... I attached tinder (yellow) compass and fishing kit, Doan magnesium strip, whistle into the sheath and paracord behind it.

I'm not able to view your photos (and I'd like to). Is it just me?

Someone must think the folks around here take orders from the mods or post on demand ???

Apparently they never tried to ride heard on a bunch of cats.
