    Default Homemade slingshot.

I've been lurking around on slingshotforum.com lately and have been inspired to try my hand at making some. This is my third one and my first natural fork, it's made of western hemlock. It's wicked fast with 3/8" ball bearings and have no doubt it's more than capable of bringing down small game.

Good looking slingshot. We use to use the old kind with just a leather cord with a pocket for the stone. Twirl is around your head and let go of one cord. Took a long time just to learn to throw the stone forward.

I used what's called Theraband gold, it's around $10 on Amazon for a 6 inch by 6 foot band of the stuff. It works great and really throws those ball bearing at impressive speeds.

I've made a few of these as well, I usually hear them called "slings" while a "slingshot" uses elastic and a forked stick. The sling is a much more powerful weapon and in skilled hands I believe could bring down a deer. Slingshots on the other hand are more for fun and small game. I'm getting into it because I can "plink" without using up my precious .22 ammo. Small rocks are everywhere and ball bearings are less than $20 for 5 pounds, so it's a much more affordable way to get my shooting fix. You're right, slings take a lot more practice, at least I can get my rocks thrown in the general direction!

The few I've shot were tasty, but unfortunately we don't have squirrels in my island. Well we do have flying squirrels but they are mostly nocturnal. POW is annoyingly scarce on small game.

    Nice!
We used to make slingshots out of a dogwood fork and an innertube from a bike.
The leather pouch stone was cut from a discarded shoe.
    Brings back fond memories!

Looks good. Every time we watch the slingshot channel on youtube, my son starts telling me we need to make one. I better get me some theraband gold.

It's a lot of fun! I actually used The Slingshot Channels website to come up with the proper band length and width. They have an awesome band algorithm on their website.
