Default Are all state emergancy kit the same?

    This is Wisconsin's:

    Virginia's
    http://www.vaemergency.gov/readyvirginia/getakit

Looks like a standard kit.....but no knife....
    How about your state.

I know that each person needs their own....just looks like a very general standard kit.

I agree Hunter. Most of these Items are probably in most peoples home already. It doesn't say if the intent is to bug in and hunker down or to bug out in an evacuation. Bug in I would definitely add at least a half a dozen things. Bug out, gonna need a lot more.

But, it is a basic kit. If you have NOTHING and don't know where to start, this would be it. Better than the person who does nothing.

I think most states get their list from FEMA.

    Delaware has a list:
    Prepare a Family Emergency Kit
•Battery operated radio, flashlights - at least two
    (with extra batteries)
•First Aid kit (for both home and auto)
•Bottled water (one gallon per day per adult)
    •Non-perishable food (canned goods, crackers,
    peanut butter, can opener)
    •Prescription drugs
    •Non-prescription drugs (aspirin, sinus medicine)
    •Get cash
•Tools and supplies (duct tape, screwdrivers,
    hammer, vise grip pliers, knife)
    •Non-prescription drugs (aspirin, sinus medicine)
•Sanitation supplies (soap, toilet paper, waterless hand cleaner
    baby wipes, feminine products)
•Clothing & bedding (warm clothing, blankets)
•Baby necessities (diapers, formula, baby aspirin)
•Entertainment (especially helpful for small children - coloring
books, small travel games, playing cards, paperback books)
•Important family documents (marriage, birth certificates,
    social security cards)
They have a knife listed and seem to be big on non-prescription drugs.

I suspect all will be very similar, using one that was widely accepted as a template for a starting point.

    Here's a list from ready.gov http://www.ready.gov/document/family-supply-list

As has been stated, these are good starting places. IMO it is critical to develop your own plan and threat assessment. It will then be much easier to target your kit to your needs. All of my kits contain sharps and firearms.

When I found a discussion on these generic kits, the fact that a knife was not included....was kinda looked on as "sheeple don't need sharp stuff....make people harder to control.....
Just seem like a paranoid point of view.....but if you think about it as the "Govment" out to control the events......I don't know.

    OR
They just assume that each person has several knives on their person at any one given time.......

Kitchen knives are always available, however the basics of survival are fire, shelter, food and water. While a knife has it's uses, it is not one of the basics. Also many people may not know how to properly handle a knife and could possibly injure themselves. Another thought is that the makers of this list may not want to list a weapon that could potentially injure a child. When I was working in a home that housed two quadriplegics we were required to run safety drills at certain times. The tornado drills required the residents to be moved to the safest place in the house and a container of supplies that was provided brought there also. This included a radio, flashlight, a gallon of water, but no knife. The fire drills required the residents to be moved out of the house to a safe location and no survival items were required....

    Cool Illinois surprised me.

I was surprised to see that Illinois listed a "utility knife" on their list:

    http://www.illinois.gov/ready/SiteCo...saster_Kit.pdf

Also they include a pocket knife in a "Go Bag."
