Default The Most Remote Place in the Lower 48

You may dream of marching into the wild with little on your back but for a very remote group of Park Rangers they live it 7 weeks or so out of the year. Their station is 20 miles from the nearest road or dwelling and the Rangers access it by horseback. Just thought you might enjoy the read.

Love that first link Rick, looks like a slice of heaven! Of course, I think Id have to come out of hiding every once in a while to mingle with society.. Being remote forever takes a toll on the soul!

    Thanks for posting that....cool.

My family history has several forest rangers, state and federal, and a outdoor researcher who worked on many subjects....I was kinda taken by the story.

I did spend time in the fire towers in central WI with my father as well as some forester shacks with my uncle and cousin.
Even got to spend many over night-ers at The Ranger Station, had a dorm up stairs for crews, or visitors.

Kinda set me on the outdoor path with these guys being my role models

"Mainland Florida's most remote spot can also be found within the 'Glades, 17 miles from the nearest road -- just one mile closer than Montana's farthest reach."

The reality is it is easy to get much farther from the road. That little chunk of land called Everglades National Park ain't even in our count. The everglades is way bigger than that ****ty little park. We don't even go there.

Oh, yeah? Oh, well, they excluded little water ponds. We're talkin' man land. Grizzlies and lions and such. Not some dinosaur infested backwater. So there.

People get PAID to do this stuff? No fair.
There ain't too many problems you can't fix with $500 or a 30-06.

Him-"Whats the best knife for survival?"
Me-"the one that's in your pocket."
Him-"I don't have one in my pocket."
    Me-"Exactly."
