Things are changing.......doing thing I would not have thought about.... I have hired out the install of the new windows at "The Place".
In the past I would have just did them my self....but have seen the light,(can't really lift them up the ladder) and realized it's getting harder to do this stuff.

Not sure how I feel about that....This is new ground......we will see tomorrow how bad I "get in the way".......LOL.

Kudos to you for realizing that and getting it done sooner than later. Now you can enjoy it without having it hang over your head.
Can't tell you how many times I've held back on stuff because I didn't want to pay someone doing it when I thought I could do just as good a job myself. What a bad idea!
Now I know better...life is short.

While we often find ourselves in a position to not be able to do things we once could - be it from age, injury, time constraints, etc. - it is nice to still have the means to get it done. You have spent your life ensuring that you and Mrs. H63 would always have the means. That's a plus in my opinion.

Eh, it happens. The last time I mowed my yard I tore a rotator lifting a dry bag of grass off the mower. Wrong position, whatever. So now I pay to have it mowed. I loved mowing my yard but not doing it gives me more time for preps., gun porn, BOBs and such. You have to look at the positive side. And the general rule of response is...."yeah, I could have done it but decided to let these young guys have a shot at it. They have to learn too."

Well "We" got three windows done before 10, and I only have to make one parts run.....I figured I would pay a little more for me to "help"....LOL.

I do have to say that it's good to have a "Guy" when it comes to doing whatever....and a friend at that,....that being part of my "Preps"

Life is about forming networks and surrounding your self with family and community.....be it SHTF or just horseshoes on Wed. evenings.

Finished up today...looking good and I have to believe these are a whole lot more weather tight, better insulated and draft free.
Major step in trying to go off grid.....Conserving energy is cheaper that manufacturing energy....next is roof insulation.

This is a great thread. Anyone who lives long enough will run into this issue. I think Crash is spot on.

LOL....and when you have to do the same job(not this one, but you get the idea)....after 20 years because you out lived the first go-a-round......Yeah....You know more, have better tools, can afford better supplies/material....but just lack the horsepower you once had.

I was always used to doing for myself, and family.....

Was strange.....but while he was working I went and took a nap......That was good.

Planning ahead is key in this area too. When my roof needed to be replaced I had them strip it to the decking and install the roof. The idea was when I need to replace the roof again it will only require a second layer and not a strip off so it's less money after I retire. Now, all I need is a hail storm.

With age comes wisdom, I am still dumb... I mean young enough to try to take on everything myself. I'm half way into more than a dozen projects right now and I start 2 new ones for every one I finish. Well thought out, hunter! It's not that you can't, its that you no longer need to.

Got a little touch up painting to do on the trim....but my part of this project is complete, including store the wood windows in the rafters or the boat/tractor shed.

Loaded the windows up in the bucket of the tractor....drove into the shed, lifting into position, and just slide them over......
I LOVE HYDROLICS.

Now DW can go nuts on the "Window treatments".....I get forced into watching HGTV....LOL

That will be handy. If it gets hot in the tractor shed you'll be able to open the windows.
