DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – Crews had to utilize a machine to remove an alligator that had been hit by a vehicle in Dare County Sunday night.

According to Jay Eddy, Wildlife Officer with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said the alligator was killed just before midnight along Highway 64 between Milltail Road and Creef Cut.

The gator was 12’4” and weighed at least 800 pounds.
