Default Oh lookie what I am getting.

I just ordered it. Well, my friend with the FFL just did.

I'm going to name it "Butt Ugly!" because it is, but I got it for QUITE a bit cheaper. Anyone have one? Dang, too bad swenletwhatever is gone. I'm sure he would have been an expert.

Now, just to shop for scopes...

Oh good to hear that Randy. I didn't have a lot of time to do much research on it. It was like "We can order this right now at this price but it has to be now before they are gone." and 30 minutes later, the order was placed.

I have a similar one in 6mm Remington, would rather have it in 30-06 but the 6mm make a good rifle for my kids. I like the simple trigger with few parts (unless ruger has changed their trigger design). Seems to have less to go wrong in my opinion. I like that there isn't a detachable box magazine to lose.

Good choice 1timestar, I am sure you will not regret your decision.

Good rifle in a good caliber. Especially in your area.

Do not skimp on the scope either. Get something nice and clear in a good 3-9 power with as good a reputation as the rifle and you will be set for the rest of your life and the next generation.

Congrats, the Ruger M77 in 7mm mag is my favorite Go to rifle of all time.

Her name is Elvira, Queen of Darkness....capable of delivering sudden illness (165 gr boat tail) at over 3000 fps, out to a confirmed 300+ yds.
She has reached legendary status.....if you can see it you can kill it.

Wanted a 30-06 at the time, but couldn't pass up the deal on the 7mm mag.
Her back up was a Ruger M77 in .270....presented to my nephew in honor of his first deer, and first buck (2 different deer)

Kyrat is correct, add good glass,.....you and yours can use it for a lifetime.

Thanks guys. It's good to hear that it's a good choice. I'll have a bit of time to research scopes but if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears! I don't want to go cheap, but wont use any of my savings either (house down payment, new tires). Good middle of the road suggestions would be appreciated.

Leupold Vx-1 3x9x40 is a good entry level scope.

Redfield Revolution (Made by Leupold) 3x9x40 seems to be similar, but I have not shot behind one.

I have a Bausch and Lomb 2-7x32 that I really like. This is on my 7mm-08 (Browning BLR). Works well for longer shots, but has a low enough power for most brush I want to walk through.

My 30-06 (Browning BAR) wears a VERY old Leupold fixed 4x scope. I have has plenty of other scopes on it, but the 4x my Grandfather put on there originally just seems to work the best all around. No messing with what power I need to be on for the shot.
    Have Lights? Thank a Lineman!

Picked it up today from my buddy while he was at the gun show. He also got me a good deal on a scope but I forgot what it was. A friend of his bought it, put it on, took it off and ask Brian to find someone to buy it from him. I got a SUPER good deal on it because he heard it was for a lady lol.

Ok, it's not as ugly as it looked in the picture, thankfully!
