Welcome from Alaska. Guess it depends on your skills, your thought process, and your location as to how you will do.
Why do I live in Alaska? Because I can.

    Hunter63, saying Hey and Welcome.......
Lot's to learn, take it slow, learn as you go....and have fun.

As for water with out a filter/tablets/iodine ....boiling is maybe the best way to kill nasties.....

You will need some sort of container......pot, kettle, metal water bottle (make sure it's not a vacuum bottle), a bowl, or even a tightly woven basket, or a piece of animal hide in the shape of a pot or bowl, hollow log, depression in a rock.
Can heat and boil with hot rocks if it can't be over a fire.

Some say that water can be boiled in a plastic bottle...

Some say it's not a good idea

If I was dehydrated and had questionable water..... I would boil in a plastic bottle if I had one and worry about possible chemicals later.

Hello and welcome. Don't worry - everybody starts some place. If you decide to boil water in a metal water bottle make sure it isn't double walled ------ it will explode (or at least rupture with quite a bit of force).
