dunno why you'd have to use 4 guns? why aint just a rifle and pistol enough? In real life, they are, or you don't make it. :-)

Looks like fun...I can see the vids now....

Used to shoot the novelty shoot with the muzzleloaders........fun times.

Two shots (had to reload) at a running deer, from a galloping horse,(55 gal drum with saddle, mounted on four coil springs) was one of my favorites.

We used to have one with 2 shots w/reload,

    From a canoe

    while standing up

in the middle of a creek!

And the pop up targets (politically incorrect Indians) were set on a 20 second timer.

That was always the last target on the woods walk just because so many people wound up in the neck deep water trying to hold a $500-$5000 rifle over their heads,

I have to admit that standing on the creek bank laughing was more fun than doing the shooting.

Those old boys had sort of a mean streak when it came to their "woods walks" and survival scenarios.

The situation would begin at about 8am and last till noon, then another group began at noon and lasted until 4pm. You would look like you had been hit by a truck when you finished. They were actually half day combat/wilderness survival runs.

One year you got to the first shooting point and the judge confiscated your shoes. You did the rest of the run barefoot unless you had extra shoes in your pack. (Nobody ever told you there would be time to put on your shoes during a home invasion!)

Another year the last point was a fire making exercise. You took out your kit and they placed it in a bucket of water. Not a dip, but a full one minute submerge.

One year they did the same thing to your powder horn on the first shooting point. If your horn was not waterproof you went back to camp.

There was shooting from canoes, shooting from the top of small stumps while standing on one foot, shoot one target that releases a second popup target....

That was/is a devious bunch. I have not been to that shoot in 10 years, but they still have it.

Did they do the Dress the goose?......had to put a T shirt on a farmer goose, like dressing a kid during a raid.....

They tried it one year....but the DNR got wind of it, somebody called about cruelty to animals.....By the time the DNR got there it was already discontinued.....seems farmer greese are kinda mean....Ranger got chased back to his truck.

Never had one that involved live farm animals, except for milking a goat one year. That was hilarious! Even the goat laughed.

And that one year when the scenario was that you went out looking for your cow and came home to find your cabin burned and the family wiped out, kids abducted,,,, had to track down and kill the Indians with only what you had on you at the moment.

Those situation woods walks made these running and gunning balloon pop parties look tame. You had to prep for the exercise, anticipate needs in the wilderness for 48 hours, find the targets, shoot the targets, and complete the practical exercises as you traveled the course and you were scored on everything, time, accuracy, wilderness skills...

And the motivation, besides bragging rights, was usually a prize worth between $1000-$5000.

Did I mention that all this was done with a raging hangover?

I don't think there is such a thing as a inexpensive good quality steel target commercially made.

You can buy the steel and buy a welder and make your own cheaper then buying them. That is especially so if you need a bunch, as you obviously do.

That is what all the clubs I have belonged too did. Most of the time there was someone in the club that had a welder, which reduced the cost. Also allowed us flexibility in shape and size and some pretty ingenious pop up systems.

The club I belong too now even has hydraulic reset on the silhouette range, which keeps us from having to run down range. Actually we drive downrange.

One club simply drilled the plates and bolted them to short chains welded to fence posts driven into the ground. If they are not attached to something they will sail off into the wild blue if you hit them solidly.

For 9mm, 3/8 mild steel will do the job without breaking the bank.

Thanks for the morning chuckle. At our age our pants had better be on fire if we are running anywhere. And then it's only as far as the pond.

Couple of years back when Whinnie visited I took her to the club range.

They called a "cease fire" for target change and a fleet of pickup trucks headed down range like a "Fast and Furious" movie.

"Where are they going?" Winnie asks.

"Down to the 200 yard line." I replied.

I thought she was going to have a heart attack!

"They're driving so they won't have to walk 200 yards? AMAZING !!!!!"

She was totally overwhelmed by our vehicle oriented culture.

Long live American Graffiti! The only time you get out of the car is to flag the start of the race.
