I'm not crazy about shotguns personally. Like most gun folks I do have an 870, and it's set up for HD (side saddle, Magpul fore end with a short rail section for mounting a light). But if there's a bump in the night I'll probably reach for my HK USP45 Tactical or HK USC .45 carbine before the shottie. Better still would be an M4-gery but I don't have one yet.

for skeet and wingshooting, sure. For defense, no. In normal times, the pistol is many times more likely to be there when you need it. for shtf, a rifle has far more applicability.

As the old town cop always says: "The purpose of a handgun is to fight your way to a shotgun." Enough said

no, actually, the quote is about fighting your way to your rifle, and it's bs. you either live or die by your pistol, with the possible exception of shtf or being a soldier/merc.

fine, but don't kid yourself that you are likely to have one when you need a gun. If you don't constantly ccw everywhere, and aren't fast from ccw to presentation, you wont have a pistol when you need a gun, either. It's like having fire insurance that's only good on thursday mornings and tuesday afternoons. Murphy says that aint when you'll have a house fire.

The one sitting next to my pillow at my bedside is available for when I envision I might need it.

Thing is this guy is right now on the computer, setting in his mom's basement, in his underwear, swearing under his breath that WE are the ones losing out on his expertise!
