I was wondering how that axe would do on old maple with a twist in the grain until I watched it used on elm. I think I’d like to try one.
Pretty cool.........
Writer sounds like she is unfamiliar with the difference between chopping, and splitting.

That's interesting. He's actually striking the wood at a 45° angle. Pretty efficient.

Seems a kinda of specialized tool....wonder how that design would work on other chores?

Pretty darn well if your wife is holding it. I'd bet you get all sorts of chores finished.

With my luck I'd bounce the maul or ax off the tire and.....well.....nothing good would happen after that.

Cool. But I think this thing might be very abusive to your wrists. The same rolling motion is typically used by folks that are really-good at splitting with an axe, except that you initiate the twist instead of "hanging on for the ride." I'll reserve judgment until I try one, but I predict a lot of tendon, ligament and joint injuries.

Can you say hydraulics?
If you have a static location,....camp, homestead, home, farm....and you use wood as at least part of your fuel, and have a self cut and stacked wood source, of good dry wood....
Then one of these, may be the way to go if you like the manual labor, (many people do).....
Personally I have moved on to an electric splitter.......next hydraulic.
Now if you are on the move, .....this may be overly heavy, one purposed, with a maybe not so good wood source.....might not be what you care to carry.
I wouldn't.

My fireplace insert arrived today. It's propane. It has a remote control. Now, if I have to split wood I just push a button and instant fire.

That's a really slick idea.
I've heard the experts say, and seen demonstration videos, that to efficiently split firewood you need to twist the axe as it enters the wood. I've tried this. I works, and it's a tad tricky.
Picking up on this technique, a Finnish company has invented a new axe that automatically twists as it enters the wood; and, it has a hook that catches it so it operates more safely than trying to add a wrist-twist to a normal axe.

Dom posted on it in January so I just merged the threads. Still a good find.
