    Default Hello from Southern Ontario

Hello to all! My name is Mike, a north of 40, male, from Southern Ontario (Brantford Area). I am a technical type (mech and electrical) working in the water treatment industry. I am largely self-taught in outdoor skills, though have 35+ years in Scouting, 20+ of which are leadership in the senior youth sections. I have some acreage with my property where I practice and bring my Scouts to show them some basics that may help them in the future.

Prior to kids, my wife and I would spend our 2 week vacation in the Temagami area, canoe camping and touring around where we would be dropped by airplane at a remote lake and be picked up 2 weeks later at a new lake 100+miles away. I have always found wilderness survival interesting and can lose myself for hours learning more. I go out at all times of year, rain, snow or fair weather.

Skill levels range from instructor level to basic, but can hold my own in pretty much any scenario I have put myself into. Camping, firearms, emergency fire, shelters, edibles are my favorites. I do not prep or plan, but should the need arise, I have plenty on hand (equipment wise) to carry me through.

My interests and hobbies include, wilderness skills, firearms, metal and wood work, making things that make my life easier, amongst other things.

Pretty much have just found this site and suspect I will absorb info like a sponge while getting myself familiar. If there is an area in which I feel that I can contribute positively, I will. I am not one to rah rah rah, jump on the bandwagon, or bad mouth others. A closed mouth gathers no foot....

All for now, thanks for looking!

    Mike

Welcome. I'm pretty new here but I've already picked up a few tips, been reminded of some things I'd forgotten, and generally found everyone to be friendly and offer pretty solid advice. Seems like a good crew here. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcomes folks! 1sttimestar, we have already had the kids out canoe camping, camping, hiking and last feb had them out in a lean to for their first winter camping experience. We happened to pick one of the two weekends down here in the balmy south that it dropped to -20c overnight. Everyone had a great time! Getting them out and teaching them is a huge motivator to me so I have someone to share with.
