Live Oak/Sabal Palm Hammock like the one in the picture don't really need a machete. I do use machetes in them for cutting palm fronds, branches and vines for camp set up and bushcraft. But, no real need for bushwacking as you can always find a game trail in and out of even the most overgrown natural hammock.

My money would be on 12" to 14" heavy bladed machete. Though I use a Tramintina all the time with fine results.

Just my opinion but I would rather have a light weight hatchet, and a good bush craft knife. I think you would have more versatility and about the same weight. a huge machete strapped to your leg can be bothersome as well.
I carry a light weight hatchet strapped to my back pack and a bush craft knife in a sheath on my side. The hatchet cuts and splits wood nicely and also makes a good hammer while my knife stays sharp for food prep and cutting in general.
It is hard to beat that combination with a multi purpose thinga ma bob

Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a butcher's *** by sticking your head up there. But, wouldn't you rather to take his word for it?
