    Default Hunters axe

I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the axe I've been working on.
Saw blade steel, .190" thick approx. cut out and ground with angle grinder.

As of now its heat treated and waiting for handles.

    Thanks for looking.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Curly ash and bronze pins, waiting for epoxy to cure more so I thought I'd put a mustard finish on as per Wayne Goddards book. Now waiting for the drying.
    Thanks. Jimimage.jpg

For your next one out of that saw blade - no need to heat treat. The temper on those blades is about perfect for and ax or hawk.

    Looks good.

I've made a few and they are a PITA - very labor intensive.

Crash your right its labor intensive, a belt grinder would make things a lot faster.
I got the handle profiled and stained, and putting some more mustard on it.
The saws probably would be good enough as is but I wanted to play around with the hardness.
    Thanks for the comments.

I love it when you guys post your sharps and you have a finger bandaged. Subliminal advertising on how sharp they really are I guess.

Rick it's not advertising it's being careless.
I cut my finger a minute ago trying to get a good set of pictures .
I put the 3rd coat of danish oil on and waiting to dry.

Chestnut brown was the stain used.

I also wanted to say thanks for a great forum that I just found. A lot of good info.

    Take care. Jimimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
