Default Carla Emery-Encyclopedia of Country Living

In getting in the sprit of constructive knowledge.....

I want to bring up a valuable resource that I have read and used for many years.....Need a new one as mine is pretty beat, and has been a "go to" for a long time.

Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living
Cook book, manual , and general how to do it from recipes to baking to pickling to leather tanning.....and can be had for about 20 bucks.

Her story in it self is interesting,..... as she need money, so started selling her "cook book", before it was written.....sending subscribers a chapter at a time.

Selling these herself, at farmers markets, fairs, and such.....traveling around.
I later years, she would book a "party, you could invite her to come and stay at your place, then she would have a book selling session with one on one Q&A.

That book sits on the end table nearest the kitchen. I read it while waiting for cooking timers and Carla's Bread recipe is one of the best I've ever made.
And there's a good chance every third time or so you pick it up you'll run across one of her non-sequiter life story paragraphs.
    Unbelievably thorough book.
    Very interesting life she had.

I should order a new one mine is falling out of the binding, and filled with recipes and notes I have collected over the years.

You'll dig it Rick. Better than any other 'homesteading' book out there.
