Unless you can devise a scenario then any answer is meaningless. If someone has to leave for another location the parameters that define "where" are all dictated by the event. I hope that makes sense.

    Default Local Evacuation Possible Tonight

Nobody's going to want to move in with me tonight.

There's a great possibility that my neighborhood, possibly the entire town, will have to evacuate tonight. And if a disaster strikes, it will be a man-made disaster. A toxic gas release. Mine, in fact.

You see, I went to the grocery store the other day and tossed, among countless other items, a beautiful looking slab of salt pork into my carriage. Well, I opened up the fridge when I got home today and there it was - a pound of salt pork looking straight at me. And I thought about dinner....

So, I cubed up that salt pork and fried it up nice and slow until it was just crispy and brown enough. AND THEN, I opened a LARGE can - one of them 4-serving sized cans - of them Bush's Baked Beans - the ones with onions, maple syrup, and a tiny piece of pork - and tossed it into a pan with all of that beautiful crispy salt pork.

And after it was done, I ate it. ALL of it.

I figure that the neighbors will start dialing 911 in a couple of hours or so.

Hope they can get to you before you asphyxiate yourself. If not, it's been real.

She'll be back tomorrow afternoon. She's babysitting her niece and nephew tonight. How could I possibly allow an opportunity like this go to waste?

It figures. The hepa filter replacement light just lit up on one of the Honeywells. Those beans just cost me $149.00.

    And in other news.....

Massachusetts DNR agents are investigating the death of dozens of squirrels after a mysterious odor last night.

"It's kinda weird," stated Officer Buck Trapper. "All the danged squirrels were not only dead but fried. All the animals have been confiscated along with a case of beer."

Don't laugh. My beagles will not be pleased. I may end up sleeping on the deck.

So are you talking about finding a place after the beginning of the event or now? I would vote for you to pick a spot now and get to it now and establish your self there now. While you can still hire having the water well dug and neat things like that. I doubt that it will be very easy to drive much father than what ever your gas tank has in it when the event starts because I figure gasoline will be among the very first things we lose access to. so no driving from New York to Utah after the first 8 or 10 hours IMHO I figure it would be a miracle if a person could make it 200 miles cross country by vehicle after the start of an event. I think traveling will be extremely hard and may be very dangerous almost immediately.

Let's go with economic collapse. Or an equally good; multiple major natural disasters (major earthquake or wild fires in the west, tornadoes or hurricanes elsewhere close together timewise), no gov't resources (or not enough), the natives get restless, ect.
Cheer up, the worst is yet to come.

+1. I do like that suggestion. I've never understood the thinking of buying "bug out" property hundreds of miles away. If you think that's the safe place then why not just move there? And what makes one place any safer than another? It's not my money and ya'll can do with yours whatever you like but I sure don't understand it.

I absolutely agree, and plan to move, hopefully in early spring.
