I filter it to make sure I get all the Darbee out of it. Then as soon as it hits a rolling boil, I figure it is safe. This removes all but the man made chemicals out of it.
Some places, even with boiling, it I would not drink it. I have a CSI filter, a GSI filter and a H2O-to-go straw, I would use first.
Off E-bay, I got each for about $20 and though the water I camp near is right off the ice pack. I run them threw the filters and then boil it.
