Wanna know some of the recipe? They boil corn, wheat, and soy in hydrochloric acid and then neutralize with sodium hydroxide. Creates a cousin to MSG, HVP. Some of the items have a 7 to 1 ratio of sodium to Calories (mg/Kcal). Cipher that one up for a days Calories and let me know what your sodium intake would be.

I used to consume that stuff, but I just can't look those varmints in the eye anymore if I eat it. I'm trying to educate them enough so that they may at least make an informed decision.

Wow. I just checked 2 of my MTN House foods. Noodles and chicken is 290 cal per serving and 50% of your daily sodium. To get 2000 calories you are getting 400% of your daily value of sodium.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

LOL. I rarely add salt to anything. I'm still working off a 26 oz. container I bought about 6 years ago, and most of what's gone has been used by guests.

Ken was an easy target. I didn't want to stomp on Wingman or Sofasurfer, yet. I've been working on this since last fall, we can do this home brew. Pun intended, it'll be this winter before I publish.

GO foods does post the nutritional value of their foods. It's all in the 300%+ sodium intake for 2000 calories.

The 25 yr shelf life of these foods and the light weight are pretty important considerations though. If you only eat this stuff one meal a day the effects are not as bad. High sodium means more water consumption as well to protect your kidneys.

There is a place for these types of foods.

Not quite sure how to take that, LOL! Let's just say that I use tons of garlic, assorted peppers, and about 100 other spices.

Winter, I can't maintain a healthy BMI at 2000 Calories with the grid, a desk job, and all of the associated conveniences. I do take care of all of the homestead maintenance, I do not have a lawn boy or gardener. As a benchmark; when hunting, hiking, or fishing, I need between 4000 and 8000 Calories a day to maintain 170 lbs of get up and go. Have you ever tracked a day of calories?

Ken, have you ever tracked your consumption of sodium?

No, I don't track that stuff because I'm fat enough to offset any lack of caloric intake. I'm sure that when I'm beating the bush (don't do it rick) I'm burning 4000 a day easy. When canoeing it's gotta be close to 6. Hunting season, close to 8000 easy.

Is Basic our diet was 8000 plus and we all lost weight.

Also of interest is that I just realized that I pack my pack with a 2000 calorie a day menu. I plan to lose weight I guess. Wow, how in the hell did I overlook that?

Thanks intothenew. You have enlightened me to something.

No. I usually stay away from processed foods, except for bacon (not nearly as often as I'd like) and always request "no salt" when I eat in restaurants. The ONLY foods I salt are beef (only sometimes, and lightly when I do) corn and the very few French fries I eat in a month. I'll always choose the "low sodium" version of a product, like SPAM (I love it, have lots of it in stock, and rarely eat it) or Kikoman Soy Sauce.

DO NOT GO AFIEILD WITH LESS THAN YOUR NORMAL INTAKE. Losing weight, short term from exertion, is likely from lean muscle. Muscle is much easier to burn than fat. Now, if someone is feeding you peeled grapes while you are horizontal, well, a bit of spare tire MIGHT do you some good.

You're more than welcome. This ain't for you and me though, it's for the varmints.

I think you will be extremely surprised with your regular diet. You will be appalled with your stash, even with the "lite" spam. A green bottle on the Kikkoman helps some, but not much.
