Greetings everyone!
First, I'd like to say that I am not new to this forum, but I am a new member. I'm glad to finally join you all!
Rather recently, my associate and I came up with the idea of creating a wilderness survival (self-reliance) school in central PA. We are very excited about the prospect, but we are becoming more and more aware of the difficulties we are about to face.
I already have two possible instructors available to me. One is a decorated soldier/operator, and the other is a very experienced (though not proven through certification) hunter/trapper. Both are extremely knowledgeable and proficient in survival/bushcraft methods. We already have land available to us as well, though it currently does not have any facilities (bathrooms, equipment sheds, etc.) Personally, I have no official certifications, though I have studied survival/bushcraft for the past 5 years. I don't plan on being an instructor, because I still consider myself a greenhorn in this field, but I plan on returning to school for business in order to run the school effectively. We are willing to take all the time we need in order to prepare for this undertaking.
Perhaps, my most haunting question pertains to the inherent dangers of liability problems. I wanted to ask: what kinds of insurance policies should we seek to protect us against this issue, and what might the annual costs be (just get me in the ballpark)? Also, what would prospective students like to see by way of certifications/experience/accreditations for our school and instructors? Last, what skill sets would you like to see survival/bushcraft schools teach?
Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to read my post!
Many regards,
The Happy Viking
