Default Hiking Staff Transforms into Camp Stool, Torch, etc.

This is a spinoff from Rick's post earlier today about urban BOBs.

I recently ran across a new outdoor product called the Stikstool. Very clever hiking staff that transforms into a camp stool. In aluminum, it's pretty inexpensive; but, in the more desireable carbon fiber it was a bit pricey for me. Here a link to the product: http://stikstool.com/

Given my ongoing handicaps (that hit-and-run incident some are aware of) this idea really captured my attention. Exploring further, I found a really cool Instructable on how to build my own from wooden dowling and copper pipe fittings. Here's the link to the Instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/Mult...ts-into-a-Cha/

Adding to the cool factor, there are three follow-up Instructables that show add-ons and modification to the original staff-stool design. One, in particular, really caught my attention. It's a torch (flame-torch) head for the staff. The author then followed up with a nifty campstove design that uses the staff's torch head.

Here are the links to the follow-up Instructables:

Any idea how long it will burn on a single fill-up?

That's pretty cool, thanks for the links tjwilhelm. Did you make one? I always wanted to make one with a compartment in one end to store some gear, and you uncap the other end and there's a spear head.

It's interesting but I have my own stick/stool design. It's more of a one-legged stool, like a milking stool. I used a solid 60" oak staff. On the top end I attached a wire rope loop. From that I use a D-ring to clip a seat that's sort of like a "butt-hammock". It works and the hiking staff gives me a bit of back support to rest against.

If there's a hidden spear head, you can be charged with carrying a concealed weapon in some jurisdictons, if the blade is longer than is permitted in that area for a folding knife.

Default Never had a problem on the trail

with finding a place to hang the poncho, hammock, etc, and sit/lie up out of the wet, stones, etc. But I've been in big enough gun shows that I damned well wanted a portable chair! One time, in S Cal, back in the 80's, I spent 3 entire days, and only got thru 4 of the 8 buildings. Sheesh. LA county fairgrounds. One in Dallas was plenty big, too.
