Howdy y'all!
Been stompin' the brush, tent camping and practicing outdoors skills nigh on four decades now. Mostly in SE & NE WI, though I've visited much of WI and about half the states in CONUS for varying lengths of time getting at least a few hours, if not a few days, in the bush in each. Beyond frequent hiking, hunting and general outdoors skills I enjoy developing my primitive/aboriginal skills.
The last few years been especially getting into hammocking, flint & steel and wild edibles. F&S, ferro and fresnel are like matches for me on materials gathered that hike. Bowdrill is still hit or miss however I've not knuckled down and perfected that yet as I have many other skills. Its time will come! Eaten more than 60 wild plant parts of more than 50 species and am expanding that as I go. Tracking is amazing to me. Like learning a language, once you're fluent you can pick up a tremendous amount of info. Plants and geology can be tracked as well as animals. I've spent various amounts of time in the bush, in all seasons, from my usual multi hour dayhikes on up to 18 months at a time. Not completely Abo, I did have infrequent resupply. As I get older, the romantacism of that is wearing off! A lot of privation, work and worry. Much better to go on a well planned 3-10 dayer.
